Patrick DEVREUX

Born in Paris in 1949. As a lecturer at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Patrick DEVREUX devoted himself primarily and passionately to etching. Following this expressive form's rigorousness has lent his vision of painting a demanding selectivity, only concentrating on essence and leaving behind details which dilute painting's intensity. A seemingly deceptive simplicity only leads the observer to the great emotional charge within, masking complexity to transpose those ephemeral fugitive moments onto the canvas, where reality - already overtaken by the outcome of the work - is supplanted by
memory.

Some important works have been acquired by public institutions: the France-Cabinet des Estampes Contemporaines Library, the Musée de St. Rémy de Provence, the Town of Villeurbanne, and numerous Media Libraries, Art Collections and Libraries.

Modest and not inclined to over show his painting, DEVREUX prefers to work in silence, close to nature in a small hamlet with only a few houses, a haven far from movement and influence of form. His less than easy-to-access works become essential when, on a second study, we go through the looking glass and enter into their secret inner-world, taking us to an anxious doubtful humanity which is continually put into question. In this way, they are timeless.

The works have been shown since 1978 in the Salon de Mai in Paris, Realités Nouvelles, at the FIAC from 1990 to 1994 and in international Biennals, the Uzerche Book Biennal, Bharat Bhavan
International Biennal of Print Art (2001). Many regional galleries in France have exhibited works as well as some abroad, in Switzerland, Germany and Japan.

We now welcome Patrick DEVREUX into our group of artists with the visitor now able to permanently appreciate some of his canvases on the Artfrance picture rails.
